Audience always loves peppy numbers. They have no restrictions in preferring raunchy songs also. Be it Lolo’s ‘Sexy Sexy Sexy mujhe log bole’, or ‘Sheila’, ‘Munni’, ‘Tinku jiya’ or ‘Razia’, every song rules the chartbusters once it is accepted by the audience. the latest addition to one of the most sensational songs of 2011 is Deepika’s in her upcoming film ‘Dum Maaro Dum’. The makers of the film wouldn’t have expected it to be such a huge popular as it is as of now.
When a lyricist was asked by the media about the particular song, he revelaed on condition of anonymity, “What were the makers thinking when they chose such crude lyrics for the song. It is fine to be cheesy at times but if you tell me that lyrics like ‘Aaj mere liye chair kheech raha hai, kal meri skirt kheechega’ are trendy then sorry, I guess I am at a wrong place.”
The story doesn’t end at the lyrics, even Deepika’s moves and some of the strategic points where camera specially focuses on her anatomy has attracted many reactions coming from in and outside the industry. It can only be termed as out an out adult only number. It is much ahead of its times and has almost marred the real essence which Zeenat Aman essayed on screens four decades ago.
A trade observer comments “You can be progressive but if you make audience hear lyrics like ‘potty pe baithe nanga’ then they are bound to cringe. Rest assured, family audience would be put off here though youth may just grab it.”
Guess Dev Anand reactions… He was the one who was apprehensive about cult track to be presented all over again in its new form and avatar. And now when the newer version is out with extreme reactions it can be said that this number of Deepika’s is one of the most controversial songs of 2011.
When we asked Deepika about the reactions the track is gaining, she said, “I am not surprised. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Our attempt was to take a classic, iconic song and give it a modern-day twist. This one is for today’s generation. It sounds and looks contemporary.”
So shall the song be compared with Sheila and Munni, she said, “This isn’t a music video, it’s a part of the film. I am really happy with what we have achieved and people forget that I did an item song in Billu Barber with Shah Rukh. So this isn’t my first.”
Will she be doing such songs in future also, she replied, “Surely, why not? But it all depends on what’s offered and the concept.”
Well Deeps baby!!!! You have gone sexier than ever…. We must say.
