Yet another huge box office blockbuster from the much-loved Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, Bodyguard has crashed all previous records of blockbuster hits in recent times. The film has beaten the box office collections of his earlier hit Dabangg, which had received a huge audience both in the country as well as abroad.
Although the film has had mixed reactions to it, Bodyguard has become the largest blockbuster until now as far as raking in the moolah is concerned. It has not only delivered a great Eid celebration for the Khan-Agnihotri family, but also for all those who had something to enjoy over their extended weekend break.
The film was able to rake in a whooping 86 crore throughout India in just four days of its release, which was on a Wednesday coinciding with Eid. It crossed all net box office collections of earlier blockbusters such as the Salman starrer Dabangg, which grossed a sum of 81 crore with Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots following suit at 80 crore in their opening week across the country.
As for worldwide collections, Bodyguard has raked in an estimated 110 crore so far and is believed to cross the $5 million collected from his previous overseas blockbuster release, Dabangg.
In the UK, Bodyguard has been ranked at number 9 in the UK top 10 ranking and has collected £120,000 from 51 locations following just short of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at £122,000 in its eighth week. Reports have it that in the US, the film has made collections of $1.6 million until now.
CEO of Reliance Entertainment, Sanjeev Lamba said that it is Salman’s superstardom, his charismatic bond with his admirers, an entertaining film and a comprehensive marketing strategy along with a wide scale release that have worked in favour of the film. This has made it the quickest film to gross in 100 crore in the country alone in a very short period of time.
Despite mixed reviews says Komal Nahata, the long Eid weekend and Salman’s colossal fan following have helped boost theatre occupancies, making it the topmost box office grosser in its first week.
Multiplexes have had steady occupancies with an average attendance ranging between 75% to 85%. The film has done brilliantly in both large as well as small theatres, as a result of which Bodyguard has turned out to be the biggest Bollywood blockbuster until date.
There is nothing great about the script of Bodyguard; it is Salman’s popularity with the masses, his dialogue delivery, rocking songs, funny dance styles and unprecedented comic relief that make most of his films simply loveable.
It is but natural when girls scream in glee at the sight of his muscled body, but it is truly surprising when boys whistle out loud as a shirt comes off Salman’s body. Such is the magnetism in his personality, which has gained him the love of millions of fans worldwide.
As of now, Bodyguard is expected to rake in a lot more moolah, as Salman’s diehard fans continue to visit the theatres to watch this latest box office blockbuster.
