According to the censors, some of the scenes chosen for the second trailer of the upcoming film The Dirty Picture were far too explicit and not suitable for viewing on television or for screening at a theatre where an audience is watching a U/A movie, unless it was certified as an A film.
This puts an end to Ekta Kapoor’s effort at trying to create a larger curiosity for the film among cinemagoers, after the first trailer had produced quite a wave when released.
According to a source, “The producers of The Dirty Picture sought a U/A clearance for the trailer so that it could be promoted alongside several other films, including Pankaj Kapur’s directorial debut Mausam with son Shahid Kapur playing the lead role.”
When queried, Tanuj Garg, CEO Balaji Motion Pictures said, “The Censor Board regarded some of the scenes and dialogues inappropriate for viewing on television and in a theatre showing a U/A movie and therefore asked for them to be removed. We were keen to obtain a U/A certificate and so abided with the demands of the Board.”
The scenes that the censor board considered objectionable were a lovemaking sequence in a car, between Naseeruddin Shah and Vidya Balan, which has been snipped off and certain offensive words in Naseer’s dialogue that have been muted. “However the uncensored version of the trailer is still live on the web,” hastily added the source.
