Tusshar Kapoor admits that it is not easy kissing on screen, but it is not an impossible feat either.
Tusshar is one of the three men, the other two being Naseeruddin Shah and Emraan Hashmi, who romance Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture, a biopic on Silk Smitha, the voluptuous sex siren from the south. While Tusshar loves her, Naseer lusts for her and Emraan despises her. Tusshar plays Ramakant, a writer who secretly idolizes Silk and later gets close to her and shares some steaming moments with his ladylove. Most of these intimate scenes have already been shot, but what remains to be completed as yet, is the much spoken about kiss between the duo.
Although Tusshar says that doing an onscreen kiss is not the easiest of tasks, since one has to “perform and respond” at the same time, it is not an unachievable feat either. He maintains that he is not in the least nervous and brushes it off by saying that he is completely cool about the situation. “It is Vidya who is jumpy about the kiss, as she is the one who has to instigate it. She is playing the temptress who is trying to seduce this man and get him to come closer. She has to do all the hard work, I’m only getting the fruits of her labour”, he teases.
He is full of admiration for Vidya, who he asserts has given a completely unrestrained performance. “Silk Smitha was a confident woman and it was only because of her self-assurance and daring attitude that she had been able to make a mark for herself and as Silk, Vidya had to do the same. When the film releases, everyone who was skeptical about Vidya pulling it off, will have to agree that she suited the character to the T,” emphasized Tusshar. He also claimed that there is no archetypal resemblance of any of the characters in The Dirty Picture.
The film has been set according to the 1980’s in the South film industry. His moustached-look in the first poster of The Dirty Picture revealed last week, he agrees has raised quite some wonder. Tusshar is amused that his trainer couldn’t identify him until he had taken a closer look at the picture and recognized him standing alongside Vidya in the poster.
Ever since the trailer was released, assumptions are being made as to whom his character represents in reality. Laughs Tusshar, “While some believe that they see Nagarjuna in him in certain parts, others are of the notion that he resembles his father, Jeetendra, from the time he was doing films like Ek Hi Bhool and Maang Bharo Sajna.
He explains that his character was not shaped on a specific actor. In fact, Milan Luthria did not want Tusshar to get too flamboyant and overstated in his appearance and so was told not to watch too many films from the south. He wanted Tusshar to be himself. The actor believes that it is his hairstyle, moustache and the overall look of his character that makes people see his father in him.
He sees reason with the theory and comments, “My father’s films that he did in the south, had a certain straightforwardness in his character, which we’d go and see during weekends that we spent with him during his shoots down south. So, if people see similarities between his roles and my character in The Dirty Picture, I see no reason to object.”
